An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war\, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night\, he reunites with the stallion and his groom\, very far from the glamor of any racetrack. New York City\, 1954. Martha Jackson\, a gallery owner celebrated for taking risks on edgy contemporary painters\, becomes obsessed with a nineteenth-century equestrian oil painting of mysterious provenance. Washington\, DC\, 2019. Jess\, a Smithsonian scientist from Australia\, and Theo\, a Nigerian- American art historian\, find themselves unexpectedly connected through their shared interest in the horse–one studying the stallion’s bones for clues to his power and endurance\, the other uncovering the lost history of the unsung Black horsemen who were critical to his racing success. Based on the remarkable true story of the record-breaking thoroughbred Lexington\, Horse is a novel of art and science\, love and obsession\, and our unfinished reckoning with racism.” — Provided by publisher. Unrated. Commercial audiobook. Bestseller. 2022. \n  \nSummer on the Bluffs by Sunny Hostin & Veronica Chambers\nDB 103563\n9 hours\, 52 minutes. Human Relations.\nIn the exclusive black beach community of Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard\, the three unofficial “goddaughters” of Amelia Vaux Tanner\, successful women from different backgrounds\, gather for one last summer together before Amelia moves to the south of France and gives her home to one of them.\nThe exclusive beach community of Oak Bluffs is a mecca for the crème de la crème of black society. Thirty years ago Amelia Vaux Tanner and her husband built Chateau Laveau\, a house high on the bluffs. Ama’s favorite guests have always been her three “goddaughters:” Esperanza “Perry” Soto\, a talented Afro-Latina lawyer; Olivia Jones\, a Wall Street analyst; and Billie Hayden\, a marine biologist. This summer Ama\, now nearing seventy-one\, is moving to the south of France to reunite with her college sweetheart. She has invited Perry\, Olivia\, and Billy to spend one last golden summer together with her the way they did when they were kids. And when fall comes\, she is going to give the house to one of them. And each wants the house. Desperately. 2021. \n  \n  \n  \nNew attendees: Please call the library or click on the covers above to place copies on hold. Or current BTB members can use the Talking Book Order Form to have copies sent on cartridge.

SUMMARY:Teen Movie Club
DESCRIPTION:Teen Movie Club\nYou’ve obviously heard of libraries having book clubs\, but we are doing something a little different this summer. Ages 14-18 are invited to join our first ever movie club! This idea was brought to us by a teen for teens. We will meet weekly for the first 4 weeks of July to watch a classic movie pick at the library\, have some snacks\, and reserve time at the end for some discussion of the film and a small activity. Stop in to check it out\, talk to other teens who love watching movies\, and maybe even become mutuals on letterboxd. \nThis weeks movie is: The Truman Show (1998) directed by Peter Weir \n \nThis program is intended for: teens \n
