Most of the time they are also available on Hoopla or Libby \nWe will take time to share thoughts on the book and chat about our general reading interests! \nThis month’s book is We Still Belong by Christine Day \n \n“A thoughtful and heartfelt middle grade novel by American Indian Youth Literature Honor–winning author Christine Day (Upper Skagit)\, about a girl whose hopeful plans for Indigenous Peoples’ Day (and plans to ask her crush to the school dance) go all wrong—until she finds herself surrounded by the love of her Indigenous family and community at an intertribal powwow. \nWesley is proud of the poem she wrote for Indigenous Peoples’ Day—but the reaction from a teacher makes her wonder if expressing herself is important enough. And due to the specific tribal laws of her family’s Nation\, Wesley is unable to enroll in the Upper Skagit tribe and is left feeling “not Native enough.” Through the course of the novel\, with the help of her family and friends\, she comes to embrace her own place within the Native community.”

Atana’s island may be quiet and peaceful\, but mostly\, it’s lonely. DESCRIPTION:Bark for Books\nJoin us for our last Bark for Books of the year! Practice your reading skills by reading aloud to a trained therapy dog for 15 minutes. You can even practice presentations in front of them! From practicing speeches or book reports to just reading your favorite book aloud\, these dogs love to hear stories and get a ton of pets. We will have two therapy dogs to read to from 3:00-5:00p.m. so\, call or stop in the library to sign up for a time to meet these patient puppers. Registration begins November 29 at 10a.m. and we have 16 spots open.

DESCRIPTION:T(w)een Book Club\nT(w)een Book Club is a monthly book club suggested for tweens and teens ages 12-17 where we will read age-appropriate titles from all genres\, have a snack\, and do a book-related activity! \nCopies of our monthly book will be placed on hold and can be picked up from our front desk before our meeting. Most of the time they are also available on Hoopla or Libby \nWe will take time to share thoughts on the book and chat about our general reading interests! \nThis month’s book is Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram \n \nDarius Kellner speaks better Klingon than Farsi\, and he knows more about Hobbit social cues than Persian ones. He’s about to take his first-ever trip to Iran\, and it’s pretty overwhelming—especially when he’s also dealing with clinical depression\, a disapproving dad\, and a chronically anemic social life. In Iran\, he gets to know his ailing but still formidable grandfather\, his loving grandmother\, and the rest of his mom’s family for the first time. And he meets Sohrab\, the boy next door who changes everything. Sohrab makes sure people speak English so Darius can understand what’s going on. He gets Darius an Iranian National Football Team jersey that makes him feel like a True Persian for the first time. And he understands that sometimes\, best friends don’t have to talk. Darius has never had a true friend before\, but now he’s spending his days with Sohrab playing soccer\, eating rosewater ice cream\, and sitting together for hours in their special place\, a rooftop overlooking the Yazdi skyline. Sohrab calls him Darioush—the original Persian version of his name—and Darius has never felt more like himself than he does now that he’s Darioush to Sohrab. When it’s time to go home to America\, he’ll have to find a way to be Darioush on his own.
