DESCRIPTION:T(w)een Book Club\nT(w)een Book Club is a monthly book club suggested for tweens and teens ages 12-17 where we will read age-appropriate titles from all genres\, have a snack\, and do a book-related activity! \nCopies of our monthly book will be placed on hold and can be picked up from our front desk before our meeting. Most of the time they are also available on Hoopla or Libby \nWe will take time to share thoughts on the book and chat about our general reading interests! \nThis month’s book is Legendborn by Tracy Deonn \n \nAfter her mother dies in an accident\, sixteen-year-old Bree Matthews wants nothing to do with her family memories or childhood home. A residential program for bright high schoolers at UNC–Chapel Hill seems like the perfect escape—until Bree witnesses a magical attack her very first night on campus. \nA flying demon feeding on human energies. \nA secret society of so-called “Legendborn” students that hunt the creatures down. \nAnd a mysterious teenage mage who calls himself a “Merlin” and who attempts—and fails—to wipe Bree’s memory of everything she saw. \nThe mage’s failure unlocks Bree’s own unique magic and a buried memory with a hidden connection: the night her mother died\, another Merlin was at the hospital. Now that Bree knows there’s more to her mother’s death than what’s on the police report\, she’ll do whatever it takes to find out the truth\, even if that means infiltrating the Legendborn as one of their initiates. \nShe recruits Nick\, a self-exiled Legendborn with his own grudge against the group\, and their reluctant partnership pulls them deeper into the society’s secrets—and closer to each other. He’s about to take his first-ever trip to Iran\, and it’s pretty overwhelming—especially when he’s also dealing with clinical depression\, a disapproving dad\, and a chronically anemic social life. In Iran\, he gets to know his ailing but still formidable grandfather\, his loving grandmother\, and the rest of his mom’s family for the first time. And he meets Sohrab\, the boy next door who changes everything. Sohrab makes sure people speak English so Darius can understand what’s going on. He gets Darius an Iranian National Football Team jersey that makes him feel like a True Persian for the first time. And he understands that sometimes\, best friends don’t have to talk. Darius has never had a true friend before\, but now he’s spending his days with Sohrab playing soccer\, eating rosewater ice cream\, and sitting together for hours in their special place\, a rooftop overlooking the Yazdi skyline. Sohrab calls him Darioush—the original Persian version of his name—and Darius has never felt more like himself than he does now that he’s Darioush to Sohrab. When it’s time to go home to America\, he’ll have to find a way to be Darioush on his own.

You can even practice presentations in front of them! From practicing speeches or book reports to just reading your favorite book aloud\, these dogs love to hear stories and get a ton of pets. We will have two therapy dogs to read to from 3:00-5:00p.m. so\, call or stop in the library to sign up for a time to meet these patient puppers. DESCRIPTION:Tween Book Club Holiday Party\nTween Book Club is a monthly book club suggested for ages 10-14 where we will read age-appropriate titles from all genres\, have a snack\, and do a book-related activity! This month is our holiday party\, so we will discuss what our favorite reads of the year were\, our new reading goals\, and what we want to see next year from book club. \nCopies of our monthly book will be placed on hold and can be picked up from our front desk before our meeting. Most of the time they are also available on Hoopla or Libby \nWe will take time to share thoughts on the book and chat about our general reading interests! \nThis months book is Atana and the Firebird by Vivian Zhou \n \nA mermaid\, a firebird\, and a witch become entangled with the mysterious and powerful Witch Queen\, who may hold the key to each of their past in this epic middle grade fantasy by debut author Vivian Zhou. Atana’s island may be quiet and peaceful\, but mostly\, it’s lonely. With the outside world full of magic hunters who would stop at nothing to capture a mermaid like her\, Atana has never been brave enough to swim far from her island’s shores and seek the answers to her mysterious past—until a firebird named Ren unexpectedly crashes into her life.
