DESCRIPTION:T(w)een Book Club\nT(w)een Book Club is a monthly book club suggested for tweens and teens ages 12-17 where we will read age-appropriate titles from all genres\, have a snack\, and do a book-related activity! \nCopies of our monthly book will be placed on hold and can be picked up from our front desk before our meeting. Most of the time they are also available on Hoopla or Libby \nWe will take time to share thoughts on the book and chat about our general reading interests! \nThis month’s book is Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram \n \nDarius Kellner speaks better Klingon than Farsi\, and he knows more about Hobbit social cues than Persian ones. He’s about to take his first-ever trip to Iran\, and it’s pretty overwhelming—especially when he’s also dealing with clinical depression\, a disapproving dad\, and a chronically anemic social life. In Iran\, he gets to know his ailing but still formidable grandfather\, his loving grandmother\, and the rest of his mom’s family for the first time. And he meets Sohrab\, the boy next door who changes everything. Sohrab makes sure people speak English so Darius can understand what’s going on. He gets Darius an Iranian National Football Team jersey that makes him feel like a True Persian for the first time. And he understands that sometimes\, best friends don’t have to talk. Darius has never had a true friend before\, but now he’s spending his days with Sohrab playing soccer\, eating rosewater ice cream\, and sitting together for hours in their special place\, a rooftop overlooking the Yazdi skyline. Sohrab calls him Darioush—the original Persian version of his name—and Darius has never felt more like himself than he does now that he’s Darioush to Sohrab. When it’s time to go home to America\, he’ll have to find a way to be Darioush on his own.

Most of the time they are also available on Hoopla or Libby \nWe will take time to share thoughts on the book and chat about our general reading interests! \nThis months book is Atana and the Firebird by Vivian Zhou \n \nA mermaid\, a firebird\, and a witch become entangled with the mysterious and powerful Witch Queen\, who may hold the key to each of their past in this epic middle grade fantasy by debut author Vivian Zhou. Atana’s island may be quiet and peaceful\, but mostly\, it’s lonely. With the outside world full of magic hunters who would stop at nothing to capture a mermaid like her\, Atana has never been brave enough to swim far from her island’s shores and seek the answers to her mysterious past—until a firebird named Ren unexpectedly crashes into her life. DESCRIPTION:Creative Writing Challenge\nCalling all creative writers! We will meet at one of the front Community Rooms the second Monday of every month\, from 3:00-4:00pm.  Everyone will be given a prompt\, and your job will be to take this prompt to find words on signs\, pictures\, artwork\, book spines\, overheard phrases/quotes\, etc. on library grounds and write them down.  When everyone has something\, they will come back to the room and we will put together what we have found.
