SUMMARY:Brown Bag Talking Book Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Brown Bag Talking Book Discussion\nThe group discusses two audiobooks each month. Listen to all\, one\, or even none… everyone is welcome! \nMeet in person or join in remotely. \nTo join remotely by phone\, please Call: 267-807-9601 and use Access Code: 965803\, or join virtually by visiting bit.ly/TCLbtbcall \n  \nTitles are voted on 3 months in advance. This month’s titles: \n \nThe Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton\nDB 111364\n11 hours\, 22 minutes. General Fiction.\n“Florida is slipping away. As devastating weather patterns and rising sea levels wreak gradual havoc on the state’s infrastructure\, a powerful hurricane approaches a small town on the southeastern coast. Kirby Lowe\, an electrical line worker\, his pregnant wife\, Frida\, and their two sons\, Flip and Lucas\, prepare for the worst. When the boys go missing just before the hurricane hits\, Kirby heads out into the high winds in search of his children. Left alone\, Frida goes into premature labor and gives birth to an unusual child\, Wanda\, whom she names after the catastrophic storm that ushers her into a society closer to collapse than ever before. As Florida continues to unravel\, Wanda grows. Moving from childhood to adulthood\, adapting not only to the changing landscape\, but also to the people who\nstayed behind in a place abandoned by civilization\, Wanda loses family\, gains community\, and ultimately\, seeks adventure\, love\, and purpose in a place remade by nature. Told in four parts–power\, water\, light\, and time–The Light Pirate mirrors the rhythms of the elements and the sometimes quick\, sometimes slow dissolution of the world as we know it. It is a meditation on the changes we would rather not see\, the future we would rather not greet\, and a call back to the beauty and violence of an untamable wilderness.” — Provided by publisher. Unrated. Commercial audiobook. \n  \nThe Speckled Beauty: a dog and his people by Rick Bragg\nDB 105266\n6 hours\, 24 minutes. Biography\, Animals and Wildlife.\nThe author of works including All Over but the Shoutin’ (DB 46142) shares his memories of a starving\, one-eyed stray dog who showed up one day on the family’s Alabama property. As the dog learned how to belong\, he helped Bragg through a difficult period. Unrated. Commercial audiobook. 2021. \n  \n  \n  \nNew attendees: Please call the library or click on the covers above to place copies on hold. Or current BTB members can use the Talking Book Order Form to have copies sent on cartridge.

SUMMARY:T(w)een Book Club
DESCRIPTION:T(w)een Book Club\nT(w)een Book Club is a monthly book club suggested for tweens and teens ages 12-17 where we will read age-appropriate titles from all genres\, have a snack\, and do a book-related activity! \nCopies of our monthly book will be placed on hold and can be picked up from our front desk before our meeting. Most of the time they are also available on Hoopla or Libby \nWe will take time to share thoughts on the book and chat about our general reading interests! \nThis month’s book is Blood City Rollers by V.P. Anderson \n \nIce-skater Mina is on a one-track path to Olympic gold and glory—that is\, until she totally wipes out at her biggest competition\, and is kinda-sorta-kidnapped by undead kids on roller skates. Sucked into the high stakes world of Paranormal Roller Derby\, she finds herself “recruited” by a squad of vampires who need a human player to complete their team—just in time to save the league from losing it all. \nBetween learning to play derby well enough to kick butt on the track\, crushing hard on the dreamy team captain\, and navigating the spooky rules of the supernatural\, how can Mina go from striving to be a ten alone\, to becoming one of nine chaotic bodies forming a perfectly-imperfect team? Forget being the best. Will she be enough to help her new friends survive the season?
