SUMMARY:Books & Bites Book Club*
DESCRIPTION:Books & Bites Book Club*\nBooks & Bites is a monthly book club that reads and discusses Adult books with teen crossover and sometimes Teen books with adult crossover. Copies of the next book are passed out and checked out at each meeting. You can also get a copy from our front desk and most of the time they are also available on Hoopla or Libby. \nThis event is intended for: Adults \nThis month’s title: “Beartown” by Fredrik Backman \n \nBy the lake in Beartown is an old ice rink\, and in that ice rink Kevin\, Amat\, Benji\, and the rest of the town’s junior ice hockey team are about to compete in the national semi-finals–and they actually have a shot at winning. All the hopes and dreams of this place now rest on the shoulders of a handful of teenage boys. Under that heavy burden\, the match becomes the catalyst for a violent act that will leave a young girl traumatized and a town in turmoil. Accusations are made and\, like ripples on a pond\, they travel through all of Beartown. This is a story about a town and a game\, but even more about loyalty\, commitment\, and the responsibilities of friendship; the people we disappoint even though we love them; and the decisions we make every day that come to define us. In this story of a small forest town\, Fredrik Backman has found the entire world. \n*This book club is currently waitlisted.\nTo join our in-person meetings\, please fill out our waitlist form below. There are only two rules to the game. Stay alive. And don’t fall in love. When Ophelia’s sister disappears\, there is only one way to save her. Ophelia must enter Phantasma\, a deadly contest inside a haunted mansion\, and claim its prize—a single wish. Phantasma is a maze of twisting corridors and lavish ballrooms\, of demons and temptations. Ophelia will face nine challenges\, each more dangerous than the last. There can only be one winner\, and the other contestants will stop at nothing to eliminate their rivals. Every day the house creates new monsters. But just as Ophelia’s fears threaten to overwhelm her\, a mysterious stranger offers her a bargain. Charming\, arrogant and infuriatingly attractive\, Blackwell claims he can guide her through the lethal trials ahead. All he asks in return is ten years of her life. Ophelia knows she shouldn’t trust him. Blackwell doesn’t seem dangerous\, but appearances can be deceptive. Worse still\, she feels a dark and irresistible attraction drawing them closer and closer. Her life is on the line. But in Phantasma\, the only thing deadlier than losing the game is losing your heart… \n*This book club is currently waitlisted.\nTo join our in-person meetings\, please fill out our waitlist form below. You can also get a copy from our front desk and most of the time they are also available on Hoopla or Libby. \nThis event is intended for: Adults \nThis month’s title: “The Truth According to Ember” by Danica Nava \n \nA Chickasaw woman who can’t catch a break serves up a little white lie that snowballs into much more in this witty and irresistible rom-com by debut author Danica Nava. Ember Lee Cardinal has not always been a liar–well\, not for anything that counted at least. But her job search is not going well and when her resume̹ is rejected for the thirty-seventh time\, she takes matters into her own hands. She gets “creative” listing her qualifications and answers the ethnicity question on applications with a lie a half-lie\, technically. No one wanted Native American Ember\, but white Ember has just landed her dream accounting job on Park Avenue (Oklahoma City\, that is). Accountant Ember thrives in corporate life and her love life seems to be looking up too: Danuwoa Colson\, the IT guy and fellow Native who caught her eye on her first day\, seems to actually be interested in her too. Despite her unease over the no-dating policy at work\, they start to see each other secretly\, which somehow makes it even hotter? But when they’re caught in a compromising position on a work trip\, a scheming colleague blackmails Ember\, threatening to expose their relationship. As the manipulation continues to grow\, so do Ember’s lies. She must make the hard decision to either stay silent or finally tell the truth\, which could cost her everything. \n*This book club is currently waitlisted.\nTo join our in-person meetings\, please fill out our waitlist form below.
