Support for Educators in Uncertain Times

With kids heading back to school both in-person and online, educators and parents face new and unique challenges this school year. Taylor Community Library is offering a series of new workshops to assist educators and their students. Our online workshops are presented online and range from storytimes for lower elementary to a writer’s workshop with a local author for older kids.

Below are our programs for the 2020-2021 school year:

KidWrites Workshop: Poetry Edition

Need a fun explanation for simple poetry forms? The basics of writing poetry can be hard to start for students, but there are some fun ways to get the ball rolling. Students can have fun exploring haikus, rhyming meters, limericks, and more alongside a local published author. All classrooms that participate in this workshop will have a chance to be included in a self-published book that will be added to the library’s collection.

Library Storytime

We can help your students get excited about reading by hosting a digital storytime presentation! Let us know an upcoming topic or theme that your kids are learning about. We can customize the presentation and select titles around that subject matter.

“Is it real?”: How to find good sources

There are so many places to look for information, and it can be difficult for students to find reliable sources for their reports and papers. Look no further than your friendly local library! We can help teach your students ways to search for accurate information online, and how to determine if a source is reliable. Have an upcoming research assignment in mind? Let us know and we can prepare our presentation around a specific subject.

How to find your next favorite book

Developing a love of reading depends on finding books that interest you. Figuring out what books to recommend can be tricky, but librarians can help! We will walk through library resources to help you pick out books your students will love. Their next favorite book is just waiting to be found.
