Introducing the Taylor Library Care Closet

What is a Care Closet?

A care closet is a community-supported resource that provides items like clothing or hygiene products at no cost to those in need. Our case closet will have individually-packaged hygiene products like deodorant, soap, toothbrushes, shave kits, first aid kits, menstrual products, etc.

Inspired by other local entities’ dedication to the community with their own care closets/hygiene stations (like our friendly neighbors at the Southgate Veterans Memorial Library), we posted on our socials about our intention to start a Care Closet earlier this month.

The initial response was overwhelming! We were able to open the care closet mere days after sharing. Below is a photo of how our care closet on launch day!:

On the second shelf: bandages, cotton swabs, deodorant, toothpaste, & toothbrushes. On the third shelf: hand warmers, petroleum jelly, soap, & shampoo. The bottom of the shelving unit is empty.

How can you support this endeavor?

The Care Closet is dependent on community donations. We currently have an Amazon wish-list, of which items can be purchased and delivered directly to the library. But new, packaged items may also be dropped off anytime we’re open. If there is something you believe should be added to the wish-list or the closet, please let us know your suggestion.

The Care Closet is located on the northwestern wall of the library, by the magazine area. There is no need to ask to access it, it is always open to the public during our business hours.
