Winter Boredom Busters

With the winter break coming soon, we know kids are excited. While the break is a great way to recuperate, it can also be a time of boredom and inactivity for kids at home. Keep your kids engaged and reading with these boredom busting activities that require no more than a library card and some imagination:

-Check out a mystery bag with a series of surprise books for your child to enjoy. Part of the fun is finding new titles you might not have selected before. There are multiple levels for different readers.

Check out one of our STEAM kits. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Each kit features an activity focused on one of the different subjects which can include anything from a robot to a puzzle.  Each of these kits will keep your child’s mind active and help hold off boredom over the break.

Pick up our Craft of the Month Craft Pack. Each month will be a different craft to make at home, which fosters problem solving and creativity.

-Start reading a new book series.  The break can be a great time to get your child interested in reading for fun, and a book series can be a great way for kids to explore different worlds both real and fictional.

Write a story. Ask your child to write a story about their break. This activity is a great way for kids to be creative and practice storytelling. The story can be about anything they want and can be a true story or fiction.

-Write a letter to a friend or family. This activity is a great way for kids to connect with others during this time and work on their writing skills.

-Join the Winter Reading Challenge and complete activities for a wintery prize and a chance to win a Roku. All ages are welcome!

These are just a few ideas of different ways to keep your child learning that do not require the latest gadget. So bust out of the boredom cycle this winter break and keep your child’s mind engaged and growing!
